Acrylic case, protective cover or display case for MotU – what exactly is it?

A MotU case from Sora Shop is a transparent protective cover made of PMMA acrylic glass (colloquially also called Plexiglas), matched precisely to a particular Masters of the Universe figure or to its original packaging. It protects your collectable permanently from dust, handling and accidental knocks – and stays completely transparent while doing so.

Unlike many fields of collecting, with MotU you usually do not have to measure anything yourself: for the common lines there are already ready-made standard cases with exactly the right inside dimensions. Only when nothing fits there – a special single figure, say, or a set for which there is no ready-made case yet – do we make your case to measure. For very large objects such as a complete diorama or a Mega Construx set, the made to measure display case is the right choice instead.

Every collectable is unique. That is why the design of our cases is always matched exactly to the particular original packaging (MOC) or to the loose set.

Depending on the format and the type of packaging, some of our cases have an integrated frame or a rail for blister cards, while others manage entirely without one. Neither is an advantage or a disadvantage; each is simply the safest and most precisely fitting solution for your figure.

We work exclusively with high-grade industrial-quality PMMA acrylic glass – crystal clear, lightfast and in the lasting Sora quality.

Lightfastness and UV behaviour

The acrylic glass we use does not yellow and does not become brittle even after years in direct sunlight. Important: the acrylic glass itself is UV-stable, but offers no UV protection for the figure on display. Valuable MOC pieces (with a sensitive card print, for example) should therefore not stand in direct sunlight.

The Sora plug-and-screw system: nothing glued, fully demountable

Our acrylic cases are neither glued nor moulded in one piece; they are held together extremely firmly by a robust system of small screws and nuts. That guarantees a secure hold for valuable collectables – and you can take the case apart flat again at any time for transport or a move.

What you should know after delivery

Don’t be alarmed: the protective film

When your parcel arrives, the acrylic parts will probably look blue, green, white or even scratched. That is the protective film covering every part on both sides to prevent scratches during production and shipping (reflective elements are filmed on the front only).

Simply lift the film at one corner with your fingernail – acrylic cannot be scratched by a fingernail. Underneath, crystal-clear, flawless acrylic glass comes to light.

Not every collectable belongs under a classic case. For many small objects, a tiered display or wall mounting, Sora has the right made-to-measure solution.

Frequently asked questions about MotU cases

What does a case "with" or "without" a frame or rail mean?

The design of every case is matched exactly to the particular original packaging (MOC) or to the loose set. Depending on the format and the type of packaging, some cases have an integrated frame or a rail for the blister card, while others manage entirely without one. Neither is an advantage or a disadvantage; each is simply the safest and most precisely fitting solution for your figure.

Do I need a ready-made case or a made-to-measure one?

For most common MotU figures and sets there is already a ready-made standard case in the matching category (Origins, Vintage, Masterverse, Chronicles, Classics and many more). If nothing fits there – a special single figure, a custom or a set without a ready-made case, for example – we make your case to measure. For very large objects such as a complete diorama or a Mega Construx set, the made to measure display case is the right solution instead.

Does the case protect the original packaging (MOC/blister)?

Yes. Our cases are designed to display collectables in their original packaging (Mint on Card / blister) free of dust and protected from knocks. Loose figures or dioramas can be protected just as well.

What material thickness do the MotU cases have?

The transparent acrylic glass is always 4 mm thick – this proven thickness is the same on every case, whatever the figure and size. With the made to measure case you additionally choose whether it is made with a single frame, a double frame or a rail.

How do I measure my figure or blister card correctly?

With ready-made cases the measuring is already done – you simply choose the case for the figure in question. For a made-to-measure case you measure width, depth and height at the widest point in each case; measure blister cards including the edge. If in doubt, our team will be happy to advise you.

How do I protect a huge set or a diorama?

Very large objects such as a Mega Construx Snake Mountain or a self-built diorama no longer belong under a case but under our made to measure display case. The made-to-measure case is intended for individual single figures and sets; large-format pieces you display free of dust under that made to measure display case. You set the dimensions; very large display cases can be shipped to delivery addresses in Germany only (automatic shipping surcharge).

Does the acrylic glass yellow, and does it protect against UV?

The acrylic glass itself does not yellow and does not become brittle. It does not, however, provide any UV protection for the figure on display – valuable MOC pieces should not stand in direct sunlight.

Is Sora connected to Mattel?
