Case, cabinet or display case – what suits which collection?

With figures, the right solution depends on whether and how you collect: displayed loose ("out of the box"), in the original packaging ("mint on card") or as a large single statue.

In the original packaging (MOC / MIB): here a fully enclosed case protects not only against dust, but above all the packaging itself – creases, shelf edges and faded card backs are the most common cause of lost value. On request our cases come with a frame or rail that holds the blister neatly clear of the back panel.

Displayed loose: figures with capes, weapons and fine accessories do not take kindly to dusting. One case per figure keeps each one dust-free; several figures side by side are better placed in a display cabinet or tiered on an acrylic staircase beneath a single display case.

Statues and large single pieces: from a height of around 30 cm a made-to-measure display case becomes the first choice – ideally with a black or reflective base that picks up the diorama plinth of the statue.

For Masters of the Universe Sora has a collector's world of its own with ready-made cases for practically every line – from Vintage and Origins through to Masterverse: to the MotU collector's world.

Note on trade marks: Funko Pop!, Hasbro, Mattel, NECA, Bandai, Good Smile Company, Hot Toys, Sideshow and all other brands mentioned belong to their respective rights holders. Sora Shop is an independent manufactory for made-to-measure acrylic products and has no business relationship with any of these manufacturers.

Which figures particularly benefit from a case or cabinet

Six typical collecting situations – from the vintage card to the anime scale figure.

Action figure on its original blister card in a precisely fitting acrylic case

On the original card (MOC)

Vintage blisters and modern cards are the most delicate things on the shelf. A case with a frame keeps the card flat and protects corners and edges – the classic way to preserve value.

Funko Pop! in its box

The standard Pop box measures around 11,5 × 9 × 16 cm. A case over it protects the box from dust and sunlight – and stacks more neatly than soft protectors.

Several 15 cm action figures in individual acrylic cases side by side

6-inch figures displayed loose

Marvel Legends, Star Wars Black Series and the like are usually lined up in a row. Individual cases keep every figure dust-free; as a collector wall they look like one continuous grid.

30 cm 1/6 collectable figure under a made-to-measure acrylic display case

1/6 figures and the Hot Toys format

Around 30 cm tall, often with fabric costume and display stand: for 1/6 figures we manufacture tall cases or display cases to measure – with enough room for cape and accessories.

Anime collectable figure with delicate details under a clear acrylic display case

Anime and scale figures

Nendoroids, scale figures and statues with delicate hair and effect parts: under a clear display case every detail stays visible and yet untouched.

Many small collectable figures tiered on an acrylic staircase under a display case

Many small figures, tiered

Mini figures, tin figures, blind box collections: on plinths or an acrylic staircase every row stands visibly higher – clearly arranged instead of crowded.

Typical figure dimensions & the matching solution

Ready-made cases and figure display cabinets

For Masters of the Universe there are ready-made cases in proven sizes – for all other lines you configure your case yourself, accurate to the millimetre. For lots of small figures the display cabinets with removable pedestals are the simplest solution.

How to configure your figure case in 3 minutes

The case configurator guides you step by step – including the quantity discount from the second case onwards.

Measure the figure

Width, depth and height at the widest point in each case – include cape, weapons, display stand and base.

For MOC: measure the card, not the figure!

Enter the inside dimensions

Enter the measurements plus a little clearance as inside dimensions – that is the space for the figure or its packaging.

Inside dimensions, not outside dimensions!

Frame or rail

For figures on a card: a frame or rail holds the blister neatly clear of the back panel.

Quantity & order

From the second identical case onwards the unit price falls noticeably. Delivery in approx. 8 working days.

With packaged figures it is the packaging that counts, not the figure

The most common mistake: the figure is measured although it is meant to stay in its box. Always measure what actually stands inside the case – with MOC that means the card including the curve of the blister. The dimensions given are always inside dimensions; the outside dimensions are slightly larger because of the material thickness and the slot-together system:

outside width = inside width + 14 mm outside depth = inside depth + 8 mm outside height (without base) = inside height + 7 mm

Tip: with blisters allow 2–3 mm of clearance in depth – cards are rarely completely flat, and a case that is too tight presses exactly where the value sits.

Quantity discount: several identical cases pay off

Anyone collecting a whole line usually needs several cases of the same size. The case configurator shows the quantity discount directly – the unit price falls noticeably from the second case onwards. For mixed sizes simply order several line items.

A whole collection instead of a single figure: cabinet or staircase

From around ten figures onwards a collector wall becomes more interesting than the individual case: a made-to-measure display cabinet gives every figure its own compartment, an acrylic display staircase tiers the rows upwards towards the back. Both can be combined with a made-to-measure display case.

Large statues and oversized pieces

In the standard configurator at most one of the three dimensions may exceed 50 cm – enough for most statues up to 1/4. For very large premium formats use the oversize display case. Shipping to delivery addresses in Germany only.

Material and quality

We work exclusively with high-grade PMMA acrylic glass of industrial quality – crystal clear, lightfast and in the lasting Sora quality.

4 mmclear acrylic glass

Lightfastness and UV behaviour

The acrylic glass we use does not yellow and does not become brittle even after years in direct sunlight. Important: the acrylic glass itself is UV-stable, but it offers no UV protection for the collectable on display. Packaging cartons yellow and colour prints fade visibly in sunlight – with figures in their original packaging the location matters more than in any other field of collecting: never directly next to a window.

The Sora plug-and-screw system: nothing glued, fully demountable

We do not glue and we do not cast in one piece: every case is delivered as a construction kit with small screws and nuts. That also means you can get to the figure again at any time without having to cut anything open – and a scratched front panel can be reordered on its own instead of replacing the whole case.

By the way: our plug-and-screw system is no passing fashion – we developed it ourselves more than 20 years ago and had it officially registered as a utility model. View the original document as a PDF ↗

What you should know after delivery

Don’t be alarmed: the protective film

When your parcel arrives, the acrylic parts will probably look blue, green, white or even scratched. That is the protective film covering every part on both sides to prevent scratches during production and shipping (reflective elements are filmed on the front only).

Simply lift the film at one corner with your fingernail – acrylic cannot be scratched by a fingernail. Underneath, crystal-clear, flawless acrylic glass comes to light.

Frequently asked questions about figure cases

What is the difference between a case and a display case?

A case is fully enclosed – including back panel and base – and is intended for individual figures or figures in their packaging. A display case is placed over the object and is also available without a base; it is the typical solution for statues, dioramas and groups.

What are the frame and the rail in the case configurator for?

Both hold a figure on a blister card neatly clear of the back panel so that the card does not rest against it and the bubble is not squashed. A frame holds the card all the way round, a rail holds it only at the top (and optionally at the bottom). For loose figures you need neither.

Are the dimensions in the configurator inside or outside dimensions?

Always inside dimensions – that is, the space for the figure or its packaging. The outside dimensions are slightly larger because of the material thickness and the slot-together system:

  • outside width = inside width + 14 mm
  • outside depth = inside depth + 8 mm
  • outside height (without base) = inside height + 7 mm
Do I get a quantity discount if I need several identical cases?

Yes. In the case configurator the unit price falls noticeably from the second case of the same size onwards. Anyone wanting to show a complete wave in matching cases does considerably better this way than with individual orders.

I collect Masters of the Universe – are there ready-made cases?

Yes, for practically every MotU line: Vintage, Origins, Masterverse, Chronicles, 200X, Classics, Stactions and more. The complete overview is in the MotU collector's world.

Does the case protect the packaging from yellowing?

From dust, handling and shelf edges: yes. From UV light: no – the acrylic glass is itself UV-stable but does not filter UV radiation. Card backs and colour prints still fade in direct sunlight. So do not place the collection next to a window.

Can I open the case again?

At any time. All Sora cases are screwed together and not glued – you can take them apart, remove the figure and reassemble them. Individual parts (a scratched front panel, for example) can be reordered separately.
